Below you will find answers to some of the more common
questions that come up regarding X-Sail game.

If you have a question that is not covered in this list
then please contact us on :- help@x-sailgame.com

Q: What specification of PC do I need ?
A: Typically any PC that is not more than 2 to 3 years old should run X-Sail game with no problem.
We would recommend :-
- Windows XP / Vista
- A (preferably separate) graphics card capable of supporting DirectX 7.0 with at least 64Mb RAM on-board
- Windows DirectX 7.0 or later
- 40Mb free HDD space
- 512Mb RAM
- A broadband internet connection (for multiplayer)
Q. When I try to run the game I get an error message
A. Usually this is caused by the computer not meeting the required minimum specification (see above).
Check that the PC has at least directX 7.0 installed and is capable of rendering 3d graphics.
Also check that when the game is installed the current user has Administrator privileges.
Q. When in the game I can't seem to get the X-Sail moving and/or it keeps coming to a stop.
A. Check out the Game Manual (see above) for help on basic sailing technique.
In particular you need to make sure that the sail is as close to right angles to the direction of the wind as possible. Avoid trying to steer straight into the wind as this will cause the X-Sail to lose all power.
Q. After racing on-line I have checked the league standings page and it has not updated with my results.
A. Either your race position / lap time did not better the results you already have posted or your browser has an old version of the page in its cache.
Press F5 to refresh the standings page to get the latest version.
Q. After trying the free version of the game, and then buying and installing the full version of X-Sail the Game I still only have one desktop shortcut.
Where is my shortcut to the full game ?
A. When you install the full game it replaces the free version including any desktop shortcuts you may have had.
Any points you posted as a free user will be retained for your full user status.
Q. Im unsure which keys to use to control the X-Sail
A.

Take a look at the Game Manual above for a comprehensive list of keys for use in game.

In summary :-

If mouse control selected,
Move mouse left and right to steer
Left button pull sail in, right button let sail out

If Keyboard control selected,
Left cursor steer left, right cursor steer right
Down cursor pull sail in, up cursor let sail out

General,
ESC returns to menu, or if in menu quits from game
C Changes camera viewpoint
T brings up on-screen chat

Q. I am unable to connect to the multiplayer server
A.

Usually the Game will give a message as to why connection is not possible.

If connection has been made and the message states that you are banned, you need to e-mail us with the details and we can look into it.
If the message states that the server is full then you will unfortunately have to wait for a quieter period and try again.
A message that indicates you have a duplicate user name implies that a current user already is using the name you have in your player details box (full version only). In this instance you ned to amend the name so as not to conflict with this user.

If the message asks you to check the IP address then either the address is incorrect (88.208.234.155) or there is another connection problem.

Check that windows firewall or other similar protection software is not blocking the X-Sail game. If so you need to create an exception for the X-Sail game executable.

If connecting through a router you may need to forward the UDP ports that X-Sail the Game uses. These are ports 10500 and 10501.

Finally there may be a problem at the server end, in which case if the problem persists please send us an e-mail to notify us of this issue.

We strongly advise you to test the multiplayer aspect of the game using the free version prior to purchasing the full copy.

Q. When playing multiplayer opponents some X-Sails are very jumpy and change position erratically.
A. If a player connected to one of the servers has a slow machine and the X-Sail game is running at less than its designed speed this will cause the jumpiness.

To check if your game is running at the required speed press the ] key and a figure in milliseconds will be displayed.

This figure needs to be consistantly positive.
If it is negative for long periods then your PC is not capable of running the game at the proper speed.

Try switching off some of the detail settings in the In-Game menu to achieve a performance boost. In particular choosing to not display shadows will help a great deal.
